It Doesn’t Go Without Saying

Parents think about their kids All. The. Time. They are thinking about them even when they aren’t thinking about them. In this Collegiate Parent article, Adina Glickman reminds parents that kids can’t hear their interior thoughts and nudges them to speak up!

Is your student applying for financial aid for the 2024–25 academic year? The priority deadline is March 15, and the Office of Financial Aid has some helpful tips and resources for you to check out.

Student Accounts: 2023 1098-T Tax Form

As required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Form 1098-T is prepared annually with Colgate’s partner Heartland ECSI for all students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with qualified tuition and other related educational expenses for the calendar year considered. The form is made available by January 31 each year for the prior calendar year and sent electronically (if consented to) or by hard copy to a student’s permanent address. Visit the Insurance Information and Tax Service section of the Student Accounts page for more details, including how to access a copy of your student's 1098-T form.

The Office of Student Accounts is happy to help if you have any questions or concerns: stuaccounts@colgate.edu or 315-228-4817.

Shaw Wellness Institute News

Wagging for Wellness

Students can take a relaxing break between classes with a few minutes of fur therapy five to six times a month through Wagging for Wellness. Volunteers with Paws of CNY and Pet Partners of CNY bring their trained therapy dogs to the lounge at the Shaw Wellness Center. Research studies have shown that engaging in pet therapy reduces stress, pain, and anxiety. There is no need for students to sign up in advance of sessions, they simply drop in to visit the dogs!

Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention and Counseling Services

Students can receive free, confidential counseling in a safe, secure setting where they can explore issues around alcohol and other mood-altering substances. Services are designed to educate students about the negative consequences of substance use by utilizing harm-reduction strategies and skill building, as well as correcting misperceptions that many students hold about college alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. The Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP) for student groups emphasizes how to handle situations in which individuals have misused alcohol. For legal-aged students, it provides the opportunity to learn how to create a responsible drinking environment. Learn more on the Alcohol and Other Drugs Services page.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings

Wednesday evening meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous on campus are open to students, staff, faculty, and community members. Send questions to Stephen Elfenbein (selfenbein@colgate.edu), alcohol and drug services counselor/coordinator at the Shaw Wellness Institute.
