Join us for a conversation with Julie Cohen ’86, documentary filmmaker. Hear about her incredible career, which includes directing and producing RBG, a documentary about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She will be interviewed by Allie Campana '21 and Mary Simonson, Daniel C. Benton ’80 Endowed Chair in Arts, Creativity, and Innovation; Associate Professor of Film & Media Studies and Women's Studies; Director, Film & Media Studies Program.

Julie Cohen ’86 is an Academy Award-nominated Emmy winning director/producer of RBG, along with Betsy West. She and West recently directed My Name is Pauli Murray, which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and Julia, about the life of Julia Child which will be released later in 2021 by Sony Pictures Classics. Previous films Julie’s directed include The Sturgeon Queens (7th Art Releasing, Berlinale 2015) and American Veteran (Freestyle Releasing, Panavision Award for Best New York filmmaker, 2017). Before she started making documentaries, Julie was a producer for Dateline NBC, where she won the Gracie Individual Achievement Award for Best News Producer, and at Court TV where she created and produced Supreme Court Watch. Julie graduated from Colgate in 1986 and got masters degrees from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she has also worked as an adjunct professor, and from Yale Law School.
