Winter Alumni Social Featuring Britty ’12 and Brendan ’09 O'Connor of Flour & Salt
Tuesday, February 23, 2020
7:30 p.m.
Zoom (link sent in confirmation email)
The Colgate Clubs of NYC and Northern NJ invite you to join us for the second edition of our virtual Alumni Social. This session is open to all alumni so you'll be joined by fellow Colgate alumni from various class years and geographies.
The event will begin with opening remarks from Flour & Salt Bakery owners, Britty ’12 and Brendan ’09 O’Connor. We’ll learn from Britty and Brendan how they started their business as entrepreneurs in Hamilton, where they get inspiration from and how they continue to evolve as they pursue a second venture with Martha’s on Madison.
Following that, alumni club leaders Taylor Buonocore-Guthrie ’08 and Lauren Casella ’16 will lead us in a virtual social. Attendees will split into smaller groups for rapid conversation sessions. Each session will have a fun question prompt to spark conversation. The most exciting part? Your small group members will be a surprise - and you have no idea who might be on the other end of the line...a classmate...a mentor? Perhaps your next co-conspirator, or colleague? We just promise it'll be a fun way to reconnect with the wider Colgate community and meet some new people in the process.
Britty ’12 and Brendan ’09 O’Connor
Brendan graduated from Colgate in 2009 with a degree in Philosophy and Religion. While at Colgate, Brendan was a member of the Colgate Speaking Union and president of SA Sound. Britty graduated from Colgate in 2012 with a degree in English Literature. She received her M.A.T. and Secondary Teaching Certification from Colgate in 2013. While at Colgate, Britty was a member and president of the Colgate Resolutions. After graduating, Brendan worked as a microbiologist before moving back to Hamilton to work on an organic farm and play in multiple regional bands, including Son Bully and Rabbit in the Rye. He met Britty in Hamilton during her graduate year. Britty went on to teach middle and high school English at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School. While Britty was teaching in the Hudson Valley, Brendan lived in Brooklyn, scoring an interactive play with bandmates from Rabbit in the Rye. Britty and Brendan moved back to Hamilton with no certain career plans to rejoin a community of friends. Shortly after moving back, they started Flour & Salt Bakery in 2015 as a satellite baking business. By the summer of 2016, they opened the brick and mortar location. Five years later, they are opening their second food service business in Hamilton, Martha's On Madison.
